Daily ThoughtThe present state of the world is called "gola". The state of the world as it will soon be is called "geula". The two words are exactly the same, except that “geula” has the letter "alef" inserted in the middle. “Alef” means “master”. It also means “one”. To make gola into geula, we only need reveal the alef— the One Master of the Universe who is hidden within the artifacts of our present world. You don’t have to be Jewish to eat bagels and lox, and neither need you be Jewish for Moshiach to touch your life. Moshiach will not just redeem the Jewish people from exile—he will redeem mankind from meaninglessness, and teach the purpose of life to the universe.
Imagine that you have lived your entire life in a dark tunnel. Your parents and grandparents lived there too, and so did their parents and grandparents. But you have been told or have read in some ancient books that long ago, your ancestors lived in a very different, well-lighted place.
Is it true that Moshiach shall suddenly appear on a main street in Jerusalem, a poor old man with a wild but angelic look, spewing forth wisdom and declaring the time of redemption has arrived? If so, why will they not lock him up? Is it true that he shall be announced on all the media worldwide at 6 pm, along with offers for free El Al tickets? If so, who will finance this?
