Moshiach can judge another through his sense of "smell" because of a number of reasons. Due to his life experiences, healing stage, higher perspective and expanded consciousness he is able to "sense" more than others.

I will attempt to explain this phenomenon...

When we experience a new situation or meet a new person we consciously and subconsciously have to process the situation. As children we ask ourselves the following questions -

Who is safe ?
Where is safe ?
What is safe ?
When is safe ?

There are a multitude of other questions we ask ourselves in the survival mode, but these four questions are the primary existential ones. Some people choose to remain in their "comfort zones". These comfort zones can be spiritual, physical, emotional and financial. Some people are more curious and courageous and thus venture further than others during their lifetimes. The truly adventurous push themselves beyond the normal limits. Because of this drive they develop, through practice and sheer repetition, an ability to discern their surroundings more quickly than others. Maimonides explains in "Guide for the Perplexed" that prophecy is "given" to certain people who practise righteous actions and who attempt to overcome their evil inclination.

Moshiach is like a mountain climber who has scaled the peaks of consciousness. Because of his hard-earned vantage point he can see more of the good and more of the evil that exists in the world. Other climbers lower down the mountain can benefit from his guidance, if they wish to climb higher and enjoy the better views.

A blind person develops their other senses in greater proportion to sighted people as a form of compensation and self-actualisation. They thus expand their range of potential.

Johnathon Livingstone Seagull discovers, once he has learnt to fly so high and so beautifully, his true mission in life. He decides to come back down to the lower spheres to help his fellow seagulls learn to fly better. He comes to understand that the joy he has obtained is empty if he cannot share it with others. - Adam Neira
